Here is our FINAL 2017 NFL Mock Draft! Mock 4.0 is different from the others, in that we incorporated a little twist by adding some draft day trades. Draft day trades are fun and one the reasons that make the NFL Draft such a huge spectacle. In addition, Mock 4.0 is only a mock of round 1, whereas the previous mocks consist of rounds 1 and 2. Round 1 

1. Cleveland Browns-  Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A & M

Myles Garrett is the hands down best prospect in this year’s draft, and despite the front office being “split” between Garrett and Trubisky, the Browns make the right choice with Garrett

2. San Francisco 49ers-  Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

We have had Solomon Thomas in this spot for just about every mock so far, but since we’re having a little bit of fun here we’ll change it up. The 49ers would love to trade down here, but they don’t receive anything worth the price of #2. While they still have Carlos Hyde on their roster, he has had a difficult time staying healthy and Fournette is an immediate upgrade. 

3. Chicago Bears- Jamal Adams, SS, LSU

The best player in the secondary helps out a Bears team that desperately needs help in that area. Like many teams, the Bears will look to move back without much success. They can’t go wrong with Adams.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars- OJ Howard, TE, Alabama

They would love Fournette in this spot but he’s already off the board. Howard will provide Jacksonville with another weapon to see if Blake Bortles can get it together. This could also be an ideal trade down situation for a team that loves one of the quarterbacks…Could they themselves pick a QB here??? hmmm

5. TRADE: Los Angeles Chargers- (from Tennessee Titans  via from LA Rams)–  Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford

Chargers trade pick #7 and #71 (3rd) for this pick

The Chargers, who I have been linking to Mitchell Trubisky (and I still believe that!) will make the move up 2 spots when Solomon Thomas is still on the board. I could’ve easily put Trubisky in this spot with the same trade, but the rest of the draft wouldn’t have been as fun!

6. TRADE: Cleveland Browns- ( from New York Jets)– Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina 

Cleveland trades pick #12, #33(2nd) and #65(3rd) for this pick and the Jets pick #107 (3rd-comp)

So the Browns use some of their draft stock to move up 6 spots and acquire their QB. Now both sides of the draft room are happy. Perhaps they overpaid a bit, but the Jets know how much the Browns want Trubisky and took advantage. 

7. TRADE: Buffalo Bills – (From Tennessee via Los Angeles Chargers) – Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford

Buffalo trades pick #10 and #75 for this pick

That’s 4 straight trades in the top 10 (Tennessee has now traded back twice). When this trade is announced, many will believe it is for Watson or Mahomes. Not so fast. The Bills, who didn’t match the Patriots offer sheet for running back Mike Gillislee, will jump ahead of Carolina to get McCaffrey here. McCaffrey could be used in the slot, in the backfield, and in the return game, giving the Bills a dynamic offensive weapon.  

8. Carolina Panthers- Mike Williams, WR, Clemson

The Panthers were targeting Leonard Fournette here, with McCaffrey as their back up plan. Unfortunately they miss out on both players. The’ll go ahead and give Cam Newton another play-making weapon with Mike Williams. 

9. Cincinnati Bengals-  Haason Reddick, LB, Temple

Reuben Foster has been in this spot for a while, but with his recent diluted drug sample, the Bengals will select Reddick in this spot. 

10– Tennessee Titans- (from Buffalo Bills)– Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee

The Titans finally make a pick, and keep the University of Tennessee product at home. 

11. New Orleans Saints- Jonathan Allen, DE, Alabama 

I could go CB here, but they would be hard pressed to pass up on the talent of Jonathan Allen. 

12.TRADE: Arizona Cardinals- (from New York Jets via Cleveland Browns from Philadelphia) – Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Arizona trades pick #13, #119 (4th), and 2018 5th, for this pick

The Jets did a great job of making other teams believe that they were interested in drafting a QB. They acquire a 4th round pick and 2018 5th, to move back just one spot. By doing this, the Cardinals assured themselves of the quarterback that I have linked to them long before anyone else. 

13. New York Jets (from Arizona Cardinals)– Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State

With Deshaun Watson still on the board, the Jets surprise many people by selecting the player they could’ve easily drafted at 6, in Malik Hooker. The Jets seem to be waiting as long as they can before making a decision on Calvin Pryor’s 5th year option. This pick could help with their decision. Or, just maybe another phone call is being made to Houston right now?

14. Philadelphia Eagles (from Minnesota)– Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama

Foster could be long gone at this point, but since he’s here in this mock, the Eagles are not going to pass up the chance to draft, what could be, the best player in this draft when we look back on it 10 years from now. 

15. Indianapolis Colts- Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State

Indianapolis could use offensive line help as well, but they’ll they jump on the opportunity to grab a play-maker like Dalvin Cook. With Frank Gore entering the season as a 34 year old, the Colts will be able to move on from him without much worry with the addition of the Cook. Cook is the #1 running back in this year’s class in many circles. This is the first pick that hasn’t changed from any of my mocks. 

16. Baltimore Ravens- Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

The jury is still out on Breshad Perriman, and Mike Wallace is what he is. Corey Davis has the ideal size and hands to be an instant starter in the Ravens offense. He won’t burn defenders with his speed, but he won’t have to with Perriman and Wallace there. His route running ability will create separation, and would bode well in the slot in three-wide sets. After having other guys here in previous mocks, Davis goes back to where I had him originally. 

17. TRADE: Houston Texans (from Washington Redskins)– Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

Houston trades pick #25, #57(2nd), and #169(5th)

The price was too high to move up to #13 where the Jets are in this mock (would’ve needed a 2nd and 3rd) but they were able to find a match with Washington. Washington could very well just take Watson for themselves. 

18. Tennessee Titans-  John Ross, WR, Washington

Ross was the hit of the combine when he broke Chris Johnson’s 40 yard record time. He may not be going to his own island, but he will be Marcus Mariota’s main target in short time.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama

The Bucs will be the first team to select an offensive lineman in this draft, and they’ll have the pick-ens of any of them they want. Teams’ grades on these lineman are going to vary, as there isn’t one stand-out player. 

20. Denver Broncos- Ryan Ramczyk, OT, Wisconsin

Having lost Russell Okung in free agency, the Broncos have a hole on the left side of their line. The Addition of Ramczyk will be a nice piece to go with center Matt Paradis. Regardless of who the quarterback is there, they will need the protection.

21. Detroit Lions- Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan

Many experts have Charlton climbing draft boards, and even into the top 10 in some places. However, he’s available here in our mock draft so the team with the 2nd fewest sacks in the league last year (26) will be thrilled if he fell to them here at 21. Charlton has the strength and athleticism to play in both the 4-3 and the 3-4, making him a nice addition to the Lions.

22. Miami Dolphins- Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama

This is right about where Humphrey should be drafted. He’s bounced around in my mocks, all the way from #11 to the second round. Miami should be happy with this selection. 

23. New York Giants- David Njoku, TE, Miami (FL)

There are still some quality O-lineman available, but the Giants go ahead and take the 2nd best TE prospect in the draft. While he doesn’t have a lot of experience, and needs work in the blocking game, his freakish athleticism will make the Giants offense that much more potent.  

24. Oakland Raiders- Kevin King, CB, Washington

A linebacker is in the mix here as well, but King has been climbing up draft boards and the Raiders will reap them benefits.

25. Washington (from Houston Texans)– DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame.

So why would Washington trade back for a QB when they could’ve just had Watson at 17? Well, I guess the price of a 2nd round pick + was worth it for them based on their grades of both players. I’ve been mocking Kizer to Washington for a while now, and it just makes even more sense at 25.

26. TRADE:New Orleans Saints (from Seattle Seahawks)– Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU

Saints trade pick #32, #76(3rd)#196(6th) for this pick and #106(3rd-comp)

I’m just trying to make some action in the back-end of the first round here. With New England being stubborn about trading Malcolm Butler, the Saints will move up to acquire Tre’Davious White. In some circles, White is the 2nd best CB prospect in the draft. Another direction I was going to go here, was for Seattle to keep their pick and select White, and then trade Richard Sherman to the Saints for pick #32 and #76

27. Kansas City Chiefs- Charles Harris, LB, Missouri

The way this mock turned out, I had a tougher time with this pick for Kansas City. They would’ve loved one of the top wide receivers or even QB’s, but they are off the board. Could Davis Webb be an option here and make it 5 first round quarterbacks?

28. Dallas Cowboys- Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan

Peppers has tested positive for a diluted urine sample, but Jerry Jones likes the big names and isn’t afraid to take the gamble. He also lost 4 starters in the secondary, so he’ll be able to get Peppers in there and let his coaches figure out the best place for him. 

29. Green Bay Packers- Carl Lawson, Edge, Auburn

Lawson has been compared to Cameron Wake by some experts. Someone that can wreck havoc as he gets to the quarterback.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers- Takkarist McKinley, OLB, UCLA

The Steelers may be willing to wait in the recovery of McKinley (4-6 months- shoulder surgery) in order to get an edge rusher like McKinley. He could make an impact in the second half of the season in the pass rush department.

31. Atlanta Falcons- Forest Lamp, OG, Western Kentucky

Lamp will be a nice addition to the NFC champion Atlanta Falcons. Many teams suggest he would transition nicely from tackle to guard in the NFL, although he has been successful on the outside at Western Kentucky.

32.TRADE: New York Jets (from Seattle via New Orleans Saints from New England)- Jarrad Davis, LB, Florida

Jets trade pick #39, #150(5th) and 2018 5th for this pick and 2018 6th

Hell why not? Ending the first round with another trade by the Jets, in part because they acquired multiple picks from earlier trades. Chances are Davis won’t be here, but the Seahawks do have a tendency to trade out of the 1st round. Based on this mock, this would give the Jets back to back picks, as they would own the Browns #33 pick.
