Fantasy Impact: Allen Robinson

I would’ve liked to see Robinson end up with the San Francisco 49ers instead of the Chicago Bears. Don’t get me wrong, the Bears needed a wide receiver and gave him a very handsome contract. However, this wasn’t the best move for Robinson, from both a fantasy and reality point of view. Mitchell Trubisky should be a good quarterback someday, but I would’ve preferred he took his talents to the Bay area to play along with promising quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the greatly improved Niners team. Not only would his fantasy stock be greater, but so would his chances of winning a Super Bowl in the future. I like what the Bears are doing, but I like what the 49ers are doing better. Robinson will be only 25 years old when the season opens up, and is coming off an ACL injury. However, I’m sure the Bears did their homework on his medicals and believe he is at, or getting to full health.

Fantasy Impact: Assuming he’s healthy, Robinson will the #1 wide receiver in Chicago. The problem with that, is that, it’s Chicago. As “bad” as Blake Bortles has been, he was always able to get Robinson the ball. The verdict is still in the air as to what Trubisky can/will do. As mentioned earlier, I believe he will be a good quarterback…someday. Whether or not that day is now remains to be seen. I am expecting improvements to Trubisky’s game this season, as he completed only 59% of his passes in his rookie season. You can see where I’m going with this. I’m discussing the fantasy impact of Allen Robinson and yet, talking mainly about Mitch Trubisky. That is because much of Robinson’s value will be dependent on Trubisky. Should we expect a performance that Robinson gave us in 2015 (80/1400/14)? No. We should not. I wouldn’t be surprised if he flirted with double-digit touchdowns, but I’m not expecting it. Look more towards his 2016 production as an indicator for the 2018 season. Coming off an ACL, missing a season, and playing with a second-year quarterback in a new system, is why drafting Robinson as a low-end WR2, or high end WR3 is where he should targeted. If he gives you more, well then, it’s a bonus.
