Fantasy Impact: Corey Davis

Another prediction correct….Excuse me while I do my victory lap. The Jets got much needed help in the wide receiver room during free agency with the signing of Corey Davis. You could make the argument that they overpaid a bit for him (around $13M a season), and they could’ve gotten him for less had they waited a few days during free agency. I would have a tough time disagreeing with you if you did, but we should know how NFL free agency works by now…Sometimes things don’t make sense and teams are going to do what they need to in order to bring in someone they want.

Is Davis a true #1 wide receiver? Probably not. However, when you look at their current depth chart and the addition of Keelan Cole as well, Davis doesn’t have to be a true #1. I look at it this way: Cole is the one that is replacing Breshad Perriman, who was actually the Jets #1 last season. Yes, I know that is gross. Davis certainly has the talent to be “the guy”, and was drafted by the Titans to do that, but things just didn’t work out that way. Historically, wide receivers usually find their way in year three (though lately it has been much sooner), so of course it’s possible that he finally put it all together in year 4.

Fantasy Impact: I know. This is really all we care about. Unfortunately, you may not like my analysis here. His fantasy impact is inconclusive. We don’t know who his quarterback is going to be. We don’t know if the Jets are going to bring in a better running back to improve the O-Line, and the O-line itself isn’t a finished product. If you’re about to do a dynasty startup, I would be drafting Davis as a backend WR2 / high WR3, with the assumption the Jets are drafting another QB, but This is something that will need to be updated after the draft.
